Re-Tooling TBL

For several years TBL was a blog where I wrote about a wide variety of topics. Those postings are still in the Blog Archive and many are about professional development for engineers. I am now transitioning TBL to be a place where my current and former students can find information related to job searches.

Roadside Cleanup

*Today was our annual Spring clean-up of Harris Town Road. Over 20 students and teachers took to the 4 mile stretch and some of us even spurred off onto airport road. It is amazing how much garbage collects in those few months of winter. This event, in addition to its obvious benefits, is a great time for faculty and students to interact more closely and helps embed the message of engineers being public servants.
*Today the ICC Engineering students made the 10/13 news. Our students toured the new Timberlake Lodge hotel/waterpark/event center as it is heading into its last month of construction the engineers and owners went way out of their way to make the experience valuable for the students.
*This morning at 6 AM 4 students and I headed to the UMD Med School to begin work on a project we will be collaborating on for the next 5 years. It is the design and development of an electronic stethoscope that will use fuzzy logic to assess the type of heart murmur a patient has. It will be a great project. I was even able to get a passing hug in the med school hallway from former engineering student - now med school student Heather Licke (Shaner).
*So I rode my bike to/from school Mon-Wed and froze various parts of my body. Today due to the UMD trip and roadside cleanup, I had to drive. Of course the weather turned out to be gorgeous - 51F and sunny.
*Have a Happy Friday!

I missed the newscast, but caught the article on the WDIO website. Two thoughts came to mind:

1) I see Ron is still selling hard hats (I think my HCC/ICC hard hat may still be in the trunk of my car!).

2) I believe this is the 2nd time ICC has visited a live construction site, if you count the ICC Engineering building.
