Re-Tooling TBL

For several years TBL was a blog where I wrote about a wide variety of topics. Those postings are still in the Blog Archive and many are about professional development for engineers. I am now transitioning TBL to be a place where my current and former students can find information related to job searches.

Leaving a job.

This is one of the hardest things to do correctly. Most of the time we leave a job because we are unhappy with the current situation. It is easy at times like these to lose our professionalism. We are either upset with somebody and say something we shouldn't or we are afraid of confrontation and do something unprofessional like give our notice over email or on a note.

The PROBLEM is this thing called a resume. Ethically, we are responsible to list all former jobs on a resume. Think of this - you have now graduated from college and are applying for your first real job - the new bosses call your old bosses at ___________. They say - oh yeah, I remember him/her, he/she burned some bridges when they left here.

OUCH - makes it tough to get the new job.

Be professional - even when you are leaving your job at McDonalds.
