Re-Tooling TBL

For several years TBL was a blog where I wrote about a wide variety of topics. Those postings are still in the Blog Archive and many are about professional development for engineers. I am now transitioning TBL to be a place where my current and former students can find information related to job searches.

Women in Engineering Day

On Thursday, November 29th, I will host a day at ICC for high school girls interested in careers in engineering. The day will consist of the girls attending 3 workshops hosted by women engineers. The workshops will be hands on and will include insights from the engineers as to why a high school girl would consider this path.

Do you have any suggestions as to projects that the girls could do? I have 3 planned, but am looking for ideas for 3 more.

Do you have any insights I should be sure to have shared with the girls?

If you are a woman, would you be interested in coming to help? Or are there any women in your company who might want to come and help?

Thanks!

Ron

Ron, I suggest a trail project. I am in the middle of one, and it has been pretty fun. A 3D model would be a great way to show cuts and fills as well as real obstacles that have to be avoided or changed. I think that would be a fun project, and the ICC students could get involved in building the model.

Did you get your deer?

Ron,

I think you should have them build remote control airplanes. It was a big hit with an event we held at LM, when I still worked there.

Also, the First Lego League makes robots every year. I think ICC should be coaches for a team and get one of the local schools to participate. It seems like they are always MSP teams only.
